Hugs in November

Last weekend, we were lucky to have a visit from Simon's sister's family. It's nice to get visitors; it changes the pace of the weekend and encourages us to rediscover new spots and to come up with weekend plans (from activities to breakfast!).

What do you do on a rainy day? Hit the Children's Museum!
Driving a tuks tuks in Thailand

Riding a camel in Egypt

Cooking at a snazzy café
Reading quietly at a bookshop

One of my favorite activities with guests is to go on a nice, invigorating nature walk! We took advantage of sunny (but coldish!) mother nature:

Awesome jumps from Rich and Simon.
Perfect location to jump!

Explorers on the beaten path.
The best thing of having visitors: Special treats!
The thrill of hot chocolate (with whipped cream) can light up even the crankiest child! It's even extra special if they sip it at a restaurant.

Simple Pleasure: Hiking

Last weekend we went on a proper hike (not a wander around city streets or a stroll in the safe woods) It was a hike laden with steep uphills, rocky and slippery terrain, malicious tree roots, and obstacles of water.

It was a hike worthy of hiking boots (and even walking sticks) and a litre of water. As you can witness from the pics, you'll notice that our attire wasn't "hike-worthy". I wore sandals, Simon wore jeans, and sockless Margot didn't have a hat. Nope, we weren't prepared for the challenges of the Blanchet Trail and looked quite amateurish to the eyes of the serious trail runners, the day hikers and the sporty walkers who passed us along the way. But we knew what we were doing and had so much fun!

Margot was a fantastic trooper and for 90 minutes enthusiastically led the way.

Hiking is very meditative and therapeutic. It feels so good to be in nature doing a physical activity which requires concentration (so you don't sprain your ankle), exercises all your muscles, allows you to appreciate tiny beauty, and breathe fresh air.

When there's a bit of tension in the house, the best way to release it is to go on a family hike. In nature, you can find your own stride all while keeping pace with your lil' gang, wash away negativity and "foggy-brain" syndrome, and you get a beautiful change of scenery!

Moving forward, exhaling deeply, putting things in perspective, truly living in the present; hiking is the best remedy!

Fun: Easter In the Country

We spent the Easter Weekend in Prince Edward County. Known for its art galleries and numerous wineries, PEC is a summer destination par excellence known for its proximity to Sandbanks Beach. On this early April weekend, it felt a bit haunting and wild (in a good kind of way). The fresh country air was invigorating!

We rented a 200-year old farmhouse located on the property of By Chadsey's Cairns Winery and Vineyard.

Exploring the backyard

Chatting in the parlour. Every decent house needs a parlour.

Befriending the resident outdoor cat

On this breezy April weekend, we explored a nearby rock beach:

We also visited Presqu'ile Provincial Park and went on a morning Bog Marsh Adventure:

The Easter Bunny also hopped by for a visit. Margot was confident that he came in a really fast car or a helicopter car. hum… ;)

The Magic of Disney

A fun family vacation to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Here's the gang at The Grand Floridian Cafe. It was our last group meal of the trip:
9 of us
Here are some famous landmarks:
Epcot

Magic Kingdom

Animal Kingdom

Hollywood Studios

Mid-week Simon and I hit the 'town' sans Margot. We hit the roller coasters, the spinning tea cups and enjoyed a romantic dinner (ooh la la! - Simon's addition). Here are some photos of what Margot missed (shhh don't tell her):

OK…we also had some fun with Margot…well maybe not on the roller coaster:
The most child-friendly roller coaster. Simon had fun...

…Here's Margot's reaction at the end of the ride.

She did like meeting the local "celebrities":
Princess Sofia

Ariel

Margot much preferred seeing the characters from afar.
...and finding the Magic Mirror at Downtown Disney:

No trip is complete without a few ice cream treats:

the fireworks at Magic Kingdom were worth staying up for (8:00 pm):

I love these photos of Noa and Margot being adventurers with their maps on the Pagnini trail at Animal Kingdom:

Margot's favourite ride was the carousel. We went twice!

Here are some other shots of us having fun.
